Michaela Stark

Michaela Stark is an artist, costume designer and couturier based in London. Her main practice creates custom-made lingerie pieces that are designed to sculpt the body and enhance the society-perceived ‘imperfections’, offering a new and more forgiving perspective on the female form.

Stark’s work arose from her own desire to empower her body, working through feelings of body dysmorphia. As part of her intimate study of the body, she will often model and photograph her own pieces, creating self portraits.

Previously a resident at Sarabande Foundation: The Lee Alexander McQueen Foundation, Stark uses tailoring and couture techniques to create her pieces, using silks, hand dyed fabrics and embellishment to mould to the body of the wearer.
