Lookbook: Robyn Lynch June 2020
To celebrate the first digital London Fashion Week, Robyn Lynch created a special collection supported by cycling specialists Rapha. The capsule of 12 pieces re-appropriates deadstock materials and returned garments from Rapha, used alongside Lynch’s own surplus fabrics from past collections.
'This collection is something special before I show S/S 21 in September. I’m a long-term fan of Rapha, so I reached out to see if they had any surplus materials. I’m so excited they agreed, mixing their surplus pieces cut and re-appropriated with my own excess fabrics,' said Robyn Lynch.
'Intuitive design is at the heart of everything we do at Rapha, so we were thrilled when Robyn asked if she could use our surplus materials,' says Ger Tierney, associate creative director, Rapha.
Throughout the 12-piece collection, Rapha pieces are pushed beyond their original use. Robyn Lynch sliced up two windproof jackets, reforming them with a panel of her own surplus knit fabric, to create a zip-knit technical sweater. To go with these, another windproof jacket was cut up and reformed to create a pair of shorts, complete with functional zipper. Meanwhile, another pair of shorts are cut from an orange zip-up Rapha jacket, with a repositioned pocket as part of their cut.
A T-shirt is made by combining a Rapha Lycra top with towelling, finished with a detachable bib made from surplus knit and a Rapha jacket, complete with repositioned pocket. Elsewhere, Lycra cycling shorts are embedded inside a pair of slit technical shorts, the cycling shorts showing beneath. Lynch also looked at fit, taking a tight cycling jersey and adding her own contrasting panels to create a roomier silhouette.
The collection is supported with artwork created by Joe Cruz, using scans of Lynch’s moodboard alongside photos of the collection by her stylist, Ben Schofield. The creative process for the images mirrors the collection itself, finding new ways of working during the current pandemic.
