Interview: Edward Buchanan

published on 23 September 2023

Designer Edward Buchanan interviewed by editor Hetty Mahlich on 18 September, 2023 as part of SHOWstudio’s In Fashion series.

From church ladies and his first understandings of 'style', to forging a professional path in New York and later Italy as the first design director of Bottega Veneta, later establishing his innovative knitwear label Sansovino 6, the Ohio-born designer Buchanan retraces his incredible life in fashion so far.

As a teacher and co-founder of We Are Made in Italy, Buchanan also talks about the systemic racism which has often written him out of the fashion history books, and advocating for black and brown creatives today.
