Interview: Georgina Johnson on The Slow Grind
'There's a Caribbean saying: "If you don't hear, you soon feel!"'
The global pandemic has brought many of our lives to a standstill, prompting many to think: Hang on, was all of that–the rushing, the striving, the exhaustion–necessary? Thankfully, founder of creative platform The Laundry, Georgina Johnson has collated essays and conversations that explore just that, from the likes of Ib Kamara, Campbell Addy and Kimberly Jenkins in her first book The Slow Grind: Finding Our Way Back To Creative Balance.
Exploring a more holistic conversation about how to live and work sustainably, bringing in mental health, psychology and race, Johnson's book is a clarion call for compassionate creativity. Here she speaks with Bella Gladman about the forthcoming book (pre-order information can be found on Instagram @saint_lovie), and how to find your way back to creative balance, with a short reading of a book excerpt by writer and editor Maisie Skidmore.
