'Reunion' Photography Exhibition Explores Our Human Connection to Nature
A new photography exhibition from fashion photographer Daisy Walker is opening on 30 October 2020. Titled Reunion, the exhibition also celebrates sustainable fashion brand Ssōne's latest collection Hereafter, and is hosted in the brand's Chiltern Street store.
In Reunion, Walker captures the bodies of her subjects and herself outside, in their rawest state, documenting a reconciliation between the Earth and us, its inhabitants. As a photographer who has long committed to environmental sustainability and equality activism in her practice, Walker's photography comes at a key world moment where climate and connection are urgent topics.
The exhibition sees the photographer and founder of non-profit Women in Fashion push her established printmaking process one step further, creating images in the darkroom as well as in front of the camera. Exposing, cropping, enlarging and tearing prints, Walker locates images within images, applying a tactile, physical layer of investigation to her photographic practice. They tell a story of human nature at its most elemental, at home and in chorus with the natural world.
Ssōne (pronounced 'sewn') was founded by designer Caroline Smithson who, since graduating with an MA from Central Saint Martins has picked up extensive experience from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Proenza Schouler and Peter Pilotto. Ssōne's garments and accessories are crafted from organic, recycled and natural materials using low-water washing and dyeing processes, repurposing textile cut-offs and unsold garments as part of a zero-waste mentality.
The exhibition opens to the public on 30 October 2020, at the Ssōne store on 17 Chiltern Street, London, W1U 7PQ.
