Kate Phelan

Kate Phelan is a stylist, known for her longstanding relationship with British Vogue and her tenure as creative director of Topshop. Born in Exeter in 1964, she moved to London in 1984 and enrolled on the Fashion Design course at Central Saint Martins. During her third year placement, she worked at Vogue and made the decision to not return to university to complete her degree. Phelan worked at Vogue as a Fashion Assistant and later moved to Marie Claire where she joined as Junior Fashion Editor. In 1993, she returned to Vogue, moving to take the creative helm of British high street behemoth Topshop in 2011, a role she undertook until 2017.

In 2013, she was asked to come back to Vogue in a part-time capacity, gaining the job title of senior contributing fashion editor in 2017.
