Carson McColl

Artist

Carson McColl is a musician, artist and poet who resides in London. Born in Glasgow in 1985, he studied at the University of Glasgow. McColl's work combines elements of spoken word and performance art, and in October 2010 he co-founded the band Sullom Voe. He has performed at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and in Joshua Tree, California.

McColl has been featured in the New York Times and magazines such as Man About Town, AnOther and i-D. His previous work includes collaborations with creative minds including photographer Nick Knight, Hole front woman Courtney Love and fashion designer Gareth Pugh.

In 2018, McColl co-founded the London-based independent creative studio Hard + Shiny with his long-time partner and collaborator Gareth Pugh. Built on the legacy of Pugh’s ready-to-wear fashion label, Hard + Shiny specialises in fashion, film, stage design and experiential entertainment. The have created work for artists including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Rihanna and have collaborated with the New York City Ballet, the Opéra Garnier in Paris, the Dutch National Opera and the Royal Opera House in London.
