Welcome To The World Future Fashion Graduates
It's no secret that fashion greats frequently pass through the hallowed halls of Central Saint Martins. From John Galliano and Alexander McQueen, to a new generation of image-makers and designers like Ib Kamara, Molly Goddard, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY and Simone Rocha, the school is always one to keep an eye on to see how the fashion winds do blow.
For the second years on the Fashion Design and Marketing course, they are tasked with an annual project which poses the hardest question of all. Who ARE you?
Led by project tutors Charles Jeffrey, Stephanie Cooper and Reece Sweeney, here are some of the results.
Creator’s Subordinates
'Portraying the feelings tied to power imbalances within oppressive and suffocating relationships that strip you of your agency. Specifically addressing the helplessness and the lengths I went to try to adhere to gender norms growing up in Italy.
Referencing the normalized absurdity of Christian imagery in relationship to the public perception of trans bodies and the idea of being forced to fit within a specific box.'
'Come as we are, not yet awake.
A portrayal of visual poetry, nostalgia, sound, and sentiment.'
'My work explores the varying capacities in which I use my body to complete challenging activities, as well as move through the world. It visualises the dynamic and explosive energy between mind and body, whilst warping the human form to reflect complex emotions and higher-self.'
'This project is a blending of time, a recollection of the past whilst looking to the future, an exploration of where my identity sites within multiple worlds. Imagining alternative futures within diasporic black identities.'
'Attempting to separate my own point of view from versions of the male gaze that I’ve grown up internalising. Working to process the deep frustration that comes with the inability to differentiate between the two.'

'I wanted to build a universe inspired by my love for sci-fi and otherworldly video games. Within my world, I dreamt up characters and a lore. At the heart of this narrative lies a fundamental rule: never show your face.'
'For my work I explored my Arab identity as an Iraqi woman and used references from my childhood in the middle east, to reconnect with my roots. The photographs portrays nostalgia and yearning for the past.'

'A project about spectres.
Figures appear ambiguous and half-there, existing on the verge of forgetting. Spellbound, they return again and again as traces and visual residue.'
