41-year-old designer Matteo Tamburini has been announced as Tod's new creative director, replacing Walter Chiapponi who stepped down from the role earlier this year.
Tod's announced this morning that Matteo Tamburini would take the position of creative director of women's and men's collections, replacing Walter Chiapponi.
The house said in a press release that the decision would 'definitely bring an added value' to Tod's as the brand will pivot to centre around Tamburini's 'modern vision of high quality and Italian lifestyle'. Tamburini joins from Bottega Veneta, where, as head designer of ready-to-wear, he worked closely with the creative director to oversee all collections.
The move comes just months after Tod's owners, the Della Valle family, said they were scrapping plans to delist the company and cancel a 344 million dollar buyout of the group after they failed to reach an ownership threshold of 90 percent.
In a statement to press, Tamburini said of the appointment:
'I am honoured and excited to join the Tod's family and become part of a brand that is so closely tied to my origins and memories. I identify myself with the brand's values and the continuous pursuit of high quality and style it has undertaken until now, and I look forward to contributing with my expertise'.
The new creative director will present his first collection for the luxury Italian house in February 2024.
