The Vivienne Westwood Family Return Home for Tintwistle Campaign
Seen through the eyes of photographer Juergen Teller, a long-time collaborator of the late Vivienne Westwood who died in December 2022, the fashion family behind the brand came together for the new A/W 23-24 campaign titled Tintwistle. It's the ultimate ode and farewell to the legendary designer's beginnings in the North of England and the culture of people, and ultimately history, which she held so dear.
From Vivienne's birthplace at no.6 Millbrook, Hollingworth, to her final resting place, Tintwistle is both a deeply personal family document, but also a seriously considered collection of fashion images. The designer's granddaughter, Cora Corré, stands by the door of no. 6 in full Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood garb. Corré co-founded and works with The Vivienne Foundation, based on the four pillars of change: Halt Climate Change, Stop War, Defend Human Rights and Protest Capitalism, continuing the late designer's legacy which reached far beyond the catwalk.
The ordinary is made extraordinary, in true Westwood fashion, everywhere from a football pitch to gardens and bins in the alleyway, as Kronthaler and Corré join a cast which includes the original Westwood muse Sara Stockbridge, son Ben Westwood, and models Mark Vanderloo and Zakaria Dau.
Westwood told SHOWstudio for our In Camera series in 2004: 'When I talk of culture, I'm talking of something very high... Culture has to be paid for by people that know what they're doing...Yes, I am English. It's in my bones. I consider the twentieth century a mistake - it had no ideas at all. Anywhere. Everywhere has become Americanised. Have the English got style? I don't know. I don't look to the streets for inspiration, that's for sure.' In Tintwistle, it turns out that when the streets are filled with Westwood, it's the most interesting place to look.
