The Kiko Kostadinov x Asics collaboration continues with the Gel-Sokat Infinity II, the second of Kostadinov’s Sokat model with Asics.
Like it's S/S 19 predecessor, the Kiko Kostadinov x Asics A/W 19 shoe, dubbed the Gel-Sokat Infinity II, comes with a full 360 degree, silicone Gel midsole and a newly-crafted upper.
Touching upon the dark undertones of the collection, the Gel-Sokat Infinity II colour way options (Coffee / Coffee and Carrier Grey / Silver) fall well into the A/W 19 narrative. Contruction-wise, the Bulgarian designer took influence from the Asics archive, looking towards the Asics Baseball shoe, and another performance wear shoe, the Dan Gable Ultimate, designed for wrestling. The former being a design blueprint for an elevated upper, extended tongue, and the latter inspiration for the webbing like effect on the heel counter.
For the campaign imagery, Kostadinov commissioned Japanese illustrator Moai to create a group of cutesy Kiko-characters sporting the black wigs, rhinestone accessories and Gel-Sokat Infinity II shoes from the A/W 19 show.
The Gel-Sokat Infinity II was launched at Dover Street Market Beijing on 27 July 2019 with the worldwide release set for 8 August 2019.
