Tom Ford
Fashion Designer
Film Director
Tom Ford is a designer and founder of his eponymous label. A native Texan, Ford made a name for himself as designer and creative director for Gucci in the nineties, bringing an explicit sexiness to the Italian label through his collections and risqué campaigns. Ford also contributed to Yves Saint Laurent, following the Gucci group's takeover of the Parisian house in 1999. Once the Gucci group were taken over by Pinault Printemps Redoute (now Kering) in 2004, Ford left the group entirely.
In 2005, Tom Ford and business partner Domenico De Sole founded the Tom Ford brand, initially with optical frames, fragrances and beauty products. The label then expanded to include menswear, accessories and footwear, launching womenswear in 2010.
Aside from fashion, Tom Ford has received critical acclaim for directing feature films. His 2009 debut, A Single Man, was Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated, and his 2016 release Nocturnal Animals won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival the same year.
In 2019, Tom Ford replaced Diane von Furstenberg as the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Ford stepped down from the role in May 2022.
