Kai Kühne is a fashion designer based in New York. Born in Bremerhaven, Germany, Kühne began a degree in economics at the University of Hamburg before transferring to AMD, Academy of Fashion and Design, in Hamburg, where he studied fashion design and business. During his studies, Kühne began to work as a model, later signing with Ford Model Management in New York. Whilst modelling, he also attended the School of Visual Arts to study fashion photography and art history.
In the autumn of 1998 he met his future design partners of As Four, and his focus shifted to working as part of the international fashion design collective, As Four Future Planet of Style. In the same year, As Four completed its first collection for A/W 99. In 2002, the design collective was rewarded with the Ecco Domani prize. In Spring 2005, Kühne separated from As Four and created his own brand, Kai Kühne, and diffusion label, Myself. Kai Kühne designs are sold in boutiques worldwide.
Since then, Kühne co-founded the auction house HASBEENS & WILLBEES with gallerist John Mollett.
