Brian Dowling was the owner of BDI Colour Lab on London's Old Street, one of the last commercial darkrooms in London: BDI Colour Lab has now merged with Rapid Eye Darkrooms. Dowling worked at the darkroom for 32 years and has printed colour photographs for the likes of Anton Corbijn, Juergen Teller and Nick Knight. Dowling plans, one day, to give his photography equipment and print machinery to one of the photography colleges that still teach darkroom techniques.
In 2018, a book on Dowling's work and influence on fashion photography, called Fashion Image Revolution was published, written by Charlotte Cotton.
