Day 4: Willy Ndatira
On the fourth day of Willy Ndatira's @SHOWstudio takeover (in collaboration with designer Hussein Alusch), the creative consultant posted an eclectic stream of memes, fashion photography, black and white portraiture and GIFs spanning from the 1880s up to 2020.
The fantastical work of American 'outsider' artist Henry Darger appears, as does a meme highlighting the social, economic and political turmoil that has occurred in 2020. Jim Britt's iconic portrait of two young girls laughing, later picked up by Comme des Garçons as an advertisement, is juxtaposed with more black and white imagery from Mark Laita and Vee Speers.
Alongside archival imagery, Ndatira showcased his own lockdown project entitled 40 Days and 40 Nights, which sees model Nora Attal mimic seminal artworks such as Michelangelo's Pietà and Gustave Courbet's infamous The Origin of The World.

Henry Darger is an isolated janitor in Chicago, spending most of his time alone in his apartment. What no one knows is that he is completing an epic work of art within the four walls of his home. This work, a book with 15,000 pages and countless images, is unseen until after his death in 1973, when his neighbors discover what he's created by Jessica Yu.
