As the age of robotics and the cyborg dawns, 3D scanning introduces fashion sculpture as the replacement for fashion photography.
Creative maverick Daphne Guinness was scanned by the 3D artist Kev Stenning in 2011, wearing Gareth Pugh. In 2020, SHOWstudio resurrected the scans and printed Guinness as an archetype for fashion sculpture.
From printing a 26 foot sculpture of Lady Gaga, to creating one of the earliest examples of 3D fashion films, the 3D artist Kev Stenning and image-maker Nick Knight unpack the evolution of 3D printing and scanning technology through some of the extraordinary projects they've worked on together.
Stenning offers his expert insight into how the technology has developed thus far, covering white light and laser scanning and photogrammetry. He also shares the impact this will have on the future of fashion sculpture and everyday life.
