Fashion Film Showcase: Summer 2024
What happened when Art Camp got together with luxury fashion brand Telfar? Find out in this special fashion film submission 'Puff Party'.
How much do random encounters really matter? This is a question answered by filmmaker Maria Barton in her fashion film submission 'Here and There', which hypothesises the effects of a silent and casual encounter on the different people involved - and how each one's mindset is altered because of it.
Directed by Liza Ostanina and Shyne Ousmane, 'We Will Live Forever. I Promise', explores the mental health struggles of creatives all over the world. Via a series of intimate interviews that document the daily routines of young artists, models, actors and musicians, this fashion film submission confronts the reality of an artist's life, going behind-the-scenes to reveal what can sometimes be an ugly but necessary truth.
Considered to be a 'guided meditation for the chronically online', 'Mid-itation' by Letao Chen is an autobiographical short film navigating what it means to be spiritual in our age of extremes. Taking on the form of the self-help guru, the film's protagonist and director Letao guides a meditation in the glossy rendered surfaces of the in-between. Behind the superficial comedy of internet lingo, she seeks to find a middle place of belonging, oscillating between hope and doubt, comfort and grief. Applying elements of Butoh dance, spoken word poetry, and practices of mindfulness, the film encourages the audience to 'shift into a comfortable position' and adhere to its instructions.
What is a feral muse? According to designer Genevive Devine, it's 'an idea that describes the untameable and elusive spark of inspiration in life and art that comes and goes as it pleases.' It's also the title of the designer's fashion film submission, which details the process-driven approach behind her latest collection, teasing the ever-changing boundaries between what is considered fashion and what is an 'objet d’art'.
Elizabeth Acevedo's fashion film submission 'FIVE to NINE' - featuring the debut collection of designer Shane Kastl - circles around the idea of 'a cult in favour of bold looks' sacrificing a business man in the wild... instead of saying more, we will leave the rest to your imagination (and viewing experience).
We all know words have multiple meanings, especially filmmaker Dustin Tan, whose fashion film submission 'Shoot' reacts to the 'bright and happy' content that fills our timelines every day in pursuit of something more 'felt'. Presented as a singular audio visual experience, we are asking you to interpret this film with caution and take heed of the film's own double meaning... all will reveal itself soon.
A short fashion film inspired by the People's Republic of Poland (PRL), 'ROOTS', by Amelia Ruprich and Paulina Strojna celebrates the fashion and lifestyle of Poland's mothers and grandmothers to not only revisit the aesthetics of the past but also promote sustainable fashion.
