  • What is your name and how would you describe what you do?

Naiara Tamminga: I use poetry to both express myself, and as a means to use my voice to advocate for what I believe is right and just.

  • What’s your background?

NT: I am a 14-year-old living in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the United States. I am bi-racial. My mom is white and my dad is Black. I speak both Spanish and English.

  • What inspires you?

NT: I'm inspired by the struggles both I and people around me have endured, and how we are working to rise above them.

  • What is the ambition behind your practice?

NT: My ambition is to use both dance and spoken word poetry to communicate messages of hope and justice.

What did you hope to convey with your Bodies Of Knowledge film?

NT: I hope to convey the message that all voices should be heard regardless of age, social class, race, gender, religion or sexual orientation.
