To chime with the exhibition Stephen Jones Hats at the Royal Pavilion, Brighton, SHOWstudio filmed Stephen Jones OBE in the masterfully decadent space, creating a brilliantly candid and magical window into the master milliner's history and mind.
The dazzling exhibition showcases some of Jones' most famous designs. The Royal Pavilion has long been an inspiration to Jones and many of his hats reflect the wonderful, whimsical, radical nature of the Royal Pavilion, specifically his Spring/Summer 2012 collection Chinoiserie-on-Sea.
In this endearing film by Rei Nadal, Jones swoons and strolls through the pavilion, offering insights and anecdotes into the headwear he passes. Whether it’s Sarah Stockbridge’s knitted crown, worn for an i-D cover photographed by Nick Knight, or the sushi plate hats created for Matty Bovan’s S/S 19 collection, every headpiece has a tale to tell.
Stephen Jones Hats at the Royal Pavilion is presented in partnership with Harvey Nichols.
Co-curated by Martin Pel, Curator of Costume and Textiles at the Royal Pavilion & Museums.
