Y’s and Scholl Have Perfected The Clog
When Yohji Yamamoto started designing clothes under his Y’s label in 1977, the sartorial pioneer set out to create an egalitarian wardrobe blurring the lines between men’s and women’s clothing. Fast forward nearly five decades and this ethos feels more relevant than ever. Well, the brand’s latest collaboration is certainly following in those footsteps (pun included), with a shoe that transcends gender norms.
Teaming up with Chicago-born shoe brand Scholl, Y’s is revamping the signature ‘Sabot’ clog without compromising its legendary comfort. With Scholl’s speciality in comfortable footwear, at the core of the collaboration is a fusion of design and functionality. This meant not only turning the slip-on silhouette entirely black but utilising some of the shoe brand’s signature details to produce a pair of clogs that look as good as they feel.
Not your average pair of clogs, the Y’s and Scholl collaboration is defined by the bold strap across the leather upper. Reimagining how the silhouette is assembled, in lieu of the style’s signature round rivets are sleek tacker needles fastening the sole. A stylistic nod to the stitching on classic men’s shoes. Topping it all off is a leather tag stamped with the Y’s and Scholl logos to commemorate the timeless collaboration.
The Y’s and Scholl collab launches on 12 January in all Y’s stores in Japan and Y’s online.
