What to Know About the MM6 x Salomon Collaboration
You can never predict what MM6 Maison Margiela might do next, so it was little surprise when a pair of Salomon trainers stepped onto the runway at the brand's A/W 22 runway show in Milan earlier this year, followed up by thigh-high numbers for S/S 23 in September. That doesn't mean the collaboration is any less thrilling as the French brand's avant-garde sensibility combines with that of the performance wear label for two trainer designs from A/W 22 collection launching for sale today.
Playing on the Maison Margiela archive through contemporary wardrobe pieces with a subversive spin, MM6 Maison Margiela - which is designed by an anonymous team - have previously linked up with sportswear brands including Reebok and The North Face. Salomon is a natural next step, with the performance and outerwear label becoming increasingly popular amongst the fashion crowd in recent years in line with the Gorpcore trend.
'Our motivation was to create a shoe that could easily transition between cityscapes and the great outdoors — a single product that both maintained Salomon’s high-performance specifications and also resonated with MM6 Maison Margiela’s contemporary aesthetic. The core idea, though, was the same as it always is for us. Our goal was to push Salomon’s performance-driven designs to such an extreme that they seamlessly integrated into the MM6 Maison Margiela wardrobe', MM6 explain.
Comprising two new Salomon silhouettes – the Cross Low and the Cross High – both shoes encapsulate the duality of any successful collaboration, bringing the unconventional approach of MM6 together with Salomon's performance-ready credentials. For the Cross Low, design features include the reinterpreted lug derived from Salomon’s signature Speedcross pattern and an inner mesh slip-on shoe nod to Salomon’s trail running heritage. It's available in the tricolour colourways of black and white, red and pink and multi-color khaki and grass green.
The MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross High features the same redesigned lug and block heel as its companion, but has a high-top silhouette, nodding to the MM6 '6' heel boot. Finished with a suede and ripstop upper, combined with Salomon’s Sensifit quicklace technology, the Cross High comes in black-and-white and red colourways.
The MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon capsule will be available at MM6 boutiques, online on www.maisonmargiela.com, as well as in selected multi-brand stores from 11 November.
