Maison Valentino have announced the launch of Valentino Garavani Rockstud X, a project celebrating the 10th anniversary of the iconic Valentino Garavani Rockstud Accessories. Valentino will invite other designers, brands and artists to make their own mark on the rockstud legacy.
The rockstud has become a defining feature for Valentino, and made a triumphant return for S/S 21, dominating accessories across men's and womenswear. The square, cruciform shape found on Roman doors also pays homage to the Roman Palazzo, and is a marker of creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli's hybrid of history, elegance and modernity.
Developing the values of identity, inclusivity and community which Piccioli has put centre stage at Valentino, the project is marked by the collective signature 'X', also indicating the Roman numeral 'X' and the number 10. This may also suggest that there are ten initial collaborators in line for the project.
Valentino Garavani Rockstud X will allow for the Valentino community and universe to expand and diversify, with each collaborator bringing with them their own unique following. First up is British menswear designer Craig Green. No stranger to collaboration, Green has worked with Moncler as part of Moncler Genius for four seasons, not forgetting his on-going partnership with Adidas Originals. Having established a die-hard community of fans with his protective workwear designs, Green will have all eyes on him as he moves onto this exciting new venture, giving his own spin on the fantasy of Valentino.
