For the Valentino S/S 21 collection, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, who has led the maximalist charge over recent seasons, toned things down to provide the ultimate post-WFH lockdown wardrobe. Alongside the breezy, yellow and red floral dresses which have quickly become an editorial favourite, were a key wardrobe staple for anyone looking to leave their tracksuits behind - jeans. This season, Piccioli teamed up with the denim brand Levi's, for a cult reworking of the two iconic names with the LEVI’S® VINTAGE 517 (1969) FOR VALENTINO and LEVI’S® RE-EDITION 517 FOR VALENTINO.
Moving from Paris to Milan, show notes spoke of being radical and changing course - Valentino not being defined by one aesthetic is something Piccioli has been embracing with collections and creative projects such inviting 16 magazines to reinterpret the VLogo. The Levi's collaboration features a custom tag, with the Valentino logo attached to the staple Levi's leather tan tag. Levi's red typeface incidentally doubles up as the Valentino red, the brand's house colour. The classic 1969 517 boot cut jeans, together with a 517 re-edition, are timeless fail safes. Playing with these iconic codes, the LEVI’S® VINTAGE 517 (1969) FOR VALENTINO and LEVI’S® RE-EDITION 517 FOR VALENTINO reflects Piccioli's own approach at Valentino. 'It consists in giving new value to symbols, ideas, places, atmospheres that come from different moments in time, but are still relevant for the contemporary scenario', the brand said in a statement.
The jeans will be available in select Valentino boutiques, online, and exclusively with Net-a-porter and Mr.Porter.
