The fashion industry is becoming increasingly affiliated with racing, with Italian sports car company Ferrari debuting their own fashion line last year. Motocross details are a mainstay for Louis Vuitton womenswear designer Nicolas Ghesquière, and the brand is revving up its ties to the world of high-speed racing, having designed the trunk for the 79th Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco trophy for the second year in a row, awarded to Sergio Pérez by S.A.S. Prince Albert II this week on 29 May.
Hand-crafted in the Maison's historic Asnières atelier on the outskirts of Paris, the trunk showcases Louis Vuitton's traditional savoir-faire while drawing inspiration from the heritage of the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco™. The signature Monogram canvas is adorned with the red shade of the Monaco flag while the red lines, tracing the 'V' for 'Victory', are rimmed with a white strip; reminiscent of the urban route of the track. The tailor-made trunk falls home to the trophy depicting the 19 turns of the 3.337-km track.
Launched with the tag line 'Victory travels in Louis Vuitton', the trunk is another landmark in the house's long history of creating bespoke travel cases for the world's most recognisable trophies; whether it be the FIFA World Cup, League of Legends, the Rugby World Cup France 2023, or the America's Cup, don't be fooled, trunk-making, as many know, is a Louis Vuitton expertise, and when it comes to sport, there's no exception.
