The first Monday of May: it's the fashion industry’s Super Bowl of red carpet events. Hot off the heels of the actual Super Bowl announcing bad girl Riri (that's Rihanna for anyone with bad taste in music) as its half-time show headliner, the Metropolitan Museum of Art just announced its latest Costume Institute Exhibition and Met Gala Theme: the work of Karl Lagerfeld. Dubbed Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty, the exhibition will be dedicated to the Kaiser’s expansive career while spotlighting his creative process. While we can already expect the myriad of couture creations the German designer has created for the numerous brands he’s helmed, there will also be sketches, and toiles showcasing every step of his design process.

“The Met Exhibition is the pinnacle of creativity, fashion and culture colliding together,” said Hun Kim, Design Director of KARL LAGERFELD. “It’s an honour that Karl’s work will be at the core of the 2023 exhibition and Costume Institute Benefit event and inspire the looks that will walk the world’s most renowned red carpet.”

Lagerfeld’s legendary career spanned decades with tenures at Chanel and Fendi, as well as leading his eponymous label. The Karl Lagerfeld brand is paying homage to its founder with a special capsule of 77 exclusive white shirts (based on the designer’s signature uniform). Each one will be printed with original sketches and will be released to coincide with The Met Gala’s theme announcement.
