Art Basel 2024 is living proof AI is here to stay, at least where contemporary art is concerned thanks to the art fair's first ever digital event The Digital Art Mile, set to transform Basel's historic Rebgasse this week from 10 - 16 June.
Ever the supporter of innovation in art, the nonprofit organisation, Sigg Art Foundation, have gotten behind the The Digital Art Mile to present a showcase filled with artworks from Grégory Chatonsky, Justin Aversano, Ben Elliot and Bernar Venet, all of which are dedicated to showing the world what artificial intelligence and digital mediums have to offer. Collectively, the works on show will explore themes of identity in the metaverse, the impact of VR on creativity and sustainability in a digitally-encoded world.
Positing AI as a transformative force, the Sigg Art Foundation doesn't just feed into AI's popularity, the organisation also puts its money where its mouth is via its newly-introduced Sigg Art Prize; a 10,000-euro award for what they deem to be an 'original contemporary AI project'. This year's theme is called Future Desert, make of that what you will as there's only one thing left to do: get making.
