Swarovski Brings New Light To Milan
Has a Jean-Paul Goude image of Grace Jones, her ‘Hurricane Dub’ era, in a Swarovski-encrusted bowler ever caught your eye? Or, what about a nude embroidered Swarovski nylon bodysuit, famously worn by Lily Cole beneath her tulle ballerina skirt, from Alexander McQueen’s Deliverance collection? These are amongst the Swarovski-encrusted looks which make-up their travelling exhibition Masters of Light, newly opened in Milan.
Staged inside the 18th-century Palazzo Citterio, Masters of Light has been curated by British fashion critic, author and former fashion director at SHOWstudio, Alexander Fury. After a run in Shanghai — which displayed the well-known Byzantine jewels jacket from Christian Lacroix, famously shot by Peter Lindebergh for Anna Wintour’s 1988 Vogue cover launch — Masters of Light brings its selection of over 50 crystal-embellished couture works to the newly renovated palazzo.
Rooms become seven divisions, dubbed Chambers of Wonder by the Austrian crystal masters. From Atelier Versace by Gianni Versace to Harry Styles’ Egon Lab jumpsuit and the Adam Selman fishnet gown worn by Rihanna, the exhibition aims to take onlookers through an immersive Swarovski journey tracking its company history of couture conversations since 1895, now revisited under the eye of global creative director Giovanna Engelbert.
Additionally on display at Palazzo Citterio will be ‘Galaxy,’ the new fine jewellery collection of diamonds Swarovski created in a lab, a pop-up store for varied Swarovski swag and a garden café with a menu designed by Milanese chef Carlo Cracco.
Swarovski Masters of Light is open until14 July, 2024 at Palazzo Citterio, Milan.
