To celebrate their 40th anniversary, Stüssy have invited a global group of designers to customise the classic Stüssy World Tour T-shirt. Rick Owens, Virgil Abloh of Off-White and Louis Vuitton menswear, TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist, Marc Jacobs and Martine Rose have all taken part, with each designer donating a portion of their profits to an organisation or charity of their choice.
Marc Jacobs' image features trans model Finn Buchanan sporting a blue mohawk, while Rick Owens engages in a wet T-shirt moment, his open mouth mirroring the diamond-encrusted one printed on his white Stüssy T-shirt.
As a brand borne from the Californian surf scene in the late 1980s, Stüssy has since come a long way, attracting the attention of the skate and hip-hop communities. This led to the creation of the International Stüssy Tribe, an ever-growing list of musicians, skaters, DJs, artists and designers with similar tastes to the brand.
Outside of the brand's historic interest in underground subcultures, Stüssy has also repeatedly ventured into the world of high fashion. Earlier this year, Matthew Williams of 1017 ALYX 9SM and Givenchy collaborated with Stüssy on a capsule collection after bonding over a certain subcultural Californian sensibility. For the Dior Men's Pre-Fall '20 show, artistic director Kim Jones reached out to Shawn Stüssy, who created a new logo and pattern for the French luxury house.
The 40th Anniversary World Tour collection will be available in Chapter Stores, Dover Street Market and stussy.com on Friday November 20th at 10am PST.
