Steven Meisel Captures Valentino's Newest Campaign
Unboxing Valentino does what it says on the tin, stripping the brand back to reveal the Italian label's glitz and glamour at its rawest. With the help of Steven Meisel, who's photographed the Italian house's latest campaign, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli has subtracted the superfluous to highlight the core of his designs while capturing the essence of its wearers.
As Steven Meisel highlights the power of beauty and freedom of expression in his Unboxing portraits, a specially chosen cast of characters - all armed with a strong identity - stand tall to convey Piccioli's idea of beauty in the 21st century, putting the extraordinary in a familiar frame.
Just like a Warhol factory commanded by Piccioli, the diverse personalities of the creative director's favourites are explored through Steven Meisel's lens to reflect the maison's extensive community with the campaign directly visually inspired by a previous Meisel 1999 Vogue Italia editorial The Group. This is where an unboxing of roles, desires, imperfections and identity unleash to form a new vision just as each image reveals portraits of singles and group characters that narrate a generation free to dare.
