Sink Your Teeth Into John Galliano's Process Film, Nighthawk
Still thinking about the Maison Margiela Artisanal show from January? You aren't alone. Undoubtedly the haute couture show of the season (maybe even the decade), John Galliano's triumphant Artisanal collection for the maison went beyond viral. From the immaculate draping, romance and fantasy, and of course, Pat McGrath's legendary make-up skills, content creators from around the world were inspired to create their own fantasy worlds.
Just in time for Halloween, at Paris Fashion Week Maison Margiela premiered a process film showing every step involved in bringing the show to life. Nighthawk, a docufiction horror vignette, follows an original story created by John Galliano, both documenting and memorialising the show. Filled with a cast of muses and makers, narrated in part by Galliano himself, the film mixes fiction and reality to spin the full tale of the process and execution for the haute couture collection.
Directed by Sasha Kasiuha, the film takes a new horror-filled perspective to the show, building out the narrative, adding in behind-the-scenes footage, and a silent film homage. Watch for cameos from the show’s team, Dame Pat McGrath and Duffy, and from the maison’s muses Kim Kardashian, Monica Bellucci, Lulu Tenney, Leon Dame, as well as Gwendoline Christie, who closed the infamous collection. A reaction to the creativity shown in the Artisanal show, the film broadens the universe in which Galliano constructed masterfully.
