TELFAR Carries On In Selfridges
TELFAR is back. If you downloaded TELFAR.TV from your app store then TELFAR never really left did it? Anyway, we heard tell that Telfar Clemens is taking TELFAR upmarket! Now hold on, before you Depop every Bushwick Birkin stashed in your closet, enraged with ‘I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU!’ energy, keep reading. TELFAR is standardising luxury fashion hierarchies once again by infiltrating from the inside. The new TELFAR shopping bag, dubbed THE CARRY, announces itself to the world at Selfridges The Corner Shop next month.
Yep, TELFAR takes London. THE CARRY pops-up at the leviathan department store, to showcase new tactility from a seemingly luxurious face-lift from its big sister, the original TELFAR shopping bag. THE CARRY is produced in ‘shoft,’ ‘shupple’ pebble-grain leather with an unlined interior. It takes body cues from the TELFAR tote as structured folds loosen, giving way to the elegant contours your life takes once you embrace a different relationship with fabulous — not a glow-up, but a glow-in. THE CARRY becomes what you make of your life. It makes you feel mighty, mighty real.
Nothing to worry about, right? THE CARRY promotes the TELFAR mission statement, ‘It’s Not for You — It’s for Everyone.’ In fact, Clemens doubles down on principles of an accessible style TELFAR was built on with an additional 20-deep collection of leather apparel in collaboration with Wilson’s Leather. Clemens gets into his bag of Black retail history here. Wilson’s Leather Experts, as we call it, was the go-to label for standout leather jackets when you wanted to look ‘sharp,’ or ‘pop off’ for fall. Wilson’s is a genuine cultural standard for our parents (our stepdads too). They may cut judgy eyes at our TELFAR leather flares or oversized, studded blazers, but once we say ‘this is Wilson’s Leather’ trust, all will be forgiven after a ‘baby that’s a good company,’ from the elders. See how TELFAR retains their mythology? TELFAR and Wilson’s Leather revisit your younger selves in a stylish, vicarious dance with yesterday.
TELFAR will present THE CARRY and Wilson’s Leather collection in a 360° inspiration exercise that transforms Selfridges into a TELFAR retail concept. Equal parts party, variety show and live DJ sets mix together a live, shoppable experience that influenced Clemens from growing up in New York. The street with the chic; Sylvia’s with a side of Cipriani’s; observing real people doing real things helped bring Telfar to create TELFAR. And now THE CARRY helps TELFAR redefine Selfridges. See, we told you nothing’s changed.
The TELFAR CARRY launches at THE Selfridges Corner Shop from 30 September 30 to 2 November, 2024
Pharrell Williams and Nicolas Ghesquière Take Louis Vuitton To Bed
Icons unify iconoclastic objects as Nicolas Ghesquière and Pharrell Williams, dual directors for Louis Vuitton ready-to-wear, present their iterations of the Bed Trunk. Made for an atavistic sense of deeply luxurious travel, the Louis Vuitton Bed Trunk has reinvigorated savoir-faire experiences since 1854. It achieved popularity with travellers and military officers alike, exhibiting covetability as much as comfort.
Nicolas Ghesquière interprets the Bed Trunk by revisiting sun shines from his Cruise 2023 collection. Characteristics like radiant beams with finished hardware that gleams draw the eye to tantalise cold hard modernity. Mattress patterns recall Ghesquière’s embroidered 18th century brocade tailcoats from 2018. Romance and comfort take priority here as historicism and flamboyance ease flawlessly into the cushions.
The Nicolas Ghesquière Bed Trunk is on display from 20 September to 6 October at the Louis Vuitton store in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, France
Pharrell Williams takes the Bed Trunk into a novel outcome — prioritise the original to drive the idea. Williams echoes the 1872 striped canvas on the trunk’s outside while contrasting red and white stripes lightly update the inside. Look closely to see Wiliams' ubiquitous Louis Vuitton mantra, ‘LV Lovers,’ affirming the trademark as a Pharrell Williams production across embroidered pillows and the mattress. Golden blond wood and black aluminum invite the outside décor inside as colours intermingle with prototypical elegance that adorns the Louis Vuitton universe.
The Pharrell Williams Bed Trunk is on display from 21 September to 4 October at the Savoir Rêver Louis Vuitton at the Hôtel Cheval Blanc in Paris (invitation only)
Gentle Monster Enters The Ring With TEKKEN8's Kazuya
No stranger to creative collaborations, the Korean eyewear innovators at Gentle Monster have turned to some of the biggest names in fashion and music as inspo. In their latest collaboration in fashion meets the ferocious world of gaming as Gentle Monster teams up with Tekken 8. It's the legendary fighting series' infamous antagonist Kazuya that inspired the 'INFERNO' statement sunnies. With arms that mirror Kazuya's devilish horns and orange lenses reminiscent of his fiery spirit, the avant-garde design captures the raw intensity of Kazuya’s menacing persona. Complete with a custom package shaped like Kazuya’s glove, this bold accessory is as much a fashion statement as it is a collector’s dream.
Dr. Martens Proves It's Hip To Be Square
There’s three certainties in life: death, taxes and Dr. Martens. Launching during London Fashion Week, the footwear brand’s latest drop centres around a square toe - with two colourways of two different styles. Revered for their classic dependability, the square toe silhouette takes the classic DM’s style in a new direction. Paired with distinctive, exaggerated soles, we see the cult-favourite kicks take on heightened proportions. It’s these uncanny proportions that are reflected in the accompanying campaign, too. Shot around London, the message is clear: these are still your favourite DMs, just with a (square-toed) twist.
PUMA Induces Flashbacks with the Mostra Archive Pack
On the heels of the Puma x Skepta Skope Forever volume 2, comes an updated classic from their vaunted trainer archive. Out this month is the Puma Mostro archive pack. Originally launched in 1999, the Mostro has been released in two vibrant colorways, ‘Vapor Gray/Frosted Ivory’ and ‘Black/Strong Gray.’ The Mostro was originally designed as a high performance trainer. Ministry of Sound kids and Diesel Euro bros decided no, this is actually a lifestyle trainer. It has a streamlined silhouette with strap closures across the upper, giving it effortless simplicity while those spiky soles usher in ‘Funk Soul Brother’ flashbacks from late-90s raves. Mostro is an Italian word that means monster, which rewinds Puma Mostro’s context back to a 1960s reptilian antihero battling Mothra (no Italian translation here). If that sounds overly specific, just play Chemical Brothers’ Surrender album and head over to Ssense to find your inner monster, oops Mostro.
In Pictures: Winona Ryder, Tupac Shakur, Heath Ledger and Rick Owens
Over 40 years, Michel Haddi has photographed top pop icons from 1970 to now. His lens has papped legends across film, music and fashion. Inspired by Helmut Newton, Haddi left Paris to become a photographer. This aspiration took him to Saudi Arabia, London, Italy and America. Each location left commissions from style bibles in his wake. Presently based in London with his publishing house, MHS publishing, Haddi and house director Sarah Coldron announce ‘The Legend.’ Highly favoured celebrities — captured in their winning eras — are now available in 50 x 70cm portraits for mass consumption. Choose from a selection including Franco Moschino, Angelina Jolie, two Debi Mazhar prints, Chloë Seveigny, Alek Wek, Jazzie B, Linda Evangelista, Tupac Shakur and the Stone Roses. Haddi’s resume is nearly as impressive as shooting luminaries at the heights of their notoriety.
Di Petsa Takes 7 Minutes for Beauty
Dimitra Petsa of Di Petsa has already succeeded in triggering our audio desires this summer by supporting the wardrobe for Kylie Minogue, Tove Lo and Bebe Rexha for their My Oh My video clip. Placing pop music tactility aside for a beat, Petsa invites us to drown out the sound with their new 7-minute ASMR full meditation release Di Petsa: Mother Persephone. Petsa tells the story of Persephone, goddess of the underworld and Earth’s fertile plains, that interweaves lush environments ground into a feeling of the earth resting just under your feet. Root yourselves in a focused wall of sound to engage the calm of your serenity awakened. Persephone inspires a peaceful, focused thought process on transformation through rebirth. Manifest what you need. Awake into the change you become. Then do it daily, or weekly. My oh my indeed.
Niccolò Pasqualetti at Fondazione Sozzani and Soon, Paris
Central Saint Martins alum Niccolò Pasqualetti will present his next womenswear collection in Paris this Saturday. He came this close to winning the 2024 LVMH Prize, which means he reached the semi-final level. Pasqualetti’s style of women with a certain androgyny reveal the didactic codes of Italian craftmaking and Belgian individualism. This mix places style as a curatorial, instinctive practise. You think of Italian fashion scions Manuela Pavesi, Anna Piaggi and Carla Sozzani here. Ms. Sozzani is a philanthropic believer in diviners of future fashion, which is how the Fondazione Sozzani came to be in 2016.
Last week informs this one as we observe Pasqualetti’s installation at the Fondi, which pulled his archive works together with elements from his upcoming S/S 25 collection. The fusion united abstract idiosyncrasies that just kinda worked. Steven Meisel, longtime Vogue Italia photographer in the era of Franca Sozzani, recently shot Isabella Rosselini in full Niccolò Pasqualetti for their new September issue. Factoring in CSM, LVMH, the Fondazione Sozzani and Steven Meisel breadcrumbs, curious eyes looking for something significant should zero in on Pasqualetti come Saturday.
Jacquemus and Jules Koundé Campaign Goes to the Dogs
Jules Koundé knows his way around an engaging pre-match fit. The Paris-born footballer is unafraid of a Willy Chavarria shoulder nor a Rei Kawakubo lump n’ bump. He wears Louis Vuitton by Pharrell while carrying Marc Jacobs x Stephen Sprouse LV bags. Koundé will flash his version of upscale hype while dialing up the puff in Moncler Genius x adidas. In short, the boy loves loud, polarising fashion. Enter stylist Mel Ottenberg for the latest Jacquemus campaign titled ‘At Home With Jules’. Much like Koundé's own clothes, Ottenberg and photographer Tom Kneller place our brash clotheshorse in absurd positions of gigantic proportions...
deep OCD reads...
and obligatory, on-the-nose snapshots...
Direct slapstick in one dimensional clothing is the type of marketing silliness only Jacquemus can pull off so let’s all breathe a sigh of relief.
