Japanese fashion house Issey Miyake has revealed Satoshi Kondo will be taking over from Yoshiyuki Miyamae as Head Womenswear Designer.
On Tuesday 3 September Issey Miyake announced a new designer for its womenswear line. The label, which focuses on experimental techniques and soft structural pieces, will replace Yoshiyuki Miyamae with Satoshi Kondo, a relatively unknown Japanese designer. Kondo, who is a graduate from Ueda Yasuko Fashion College, will debut for Spring/Summer 2020, on 27 September, during Paris Fashion Week. For the past few years, Kondo has been working at the Issey Miyake design studio under his predecessor Yoshiyuki Miyamae.
Miyamae, Head Designer of Womenswear for 8 years, will stay at the house to focus on a new project, not yet announced. He leaves a legacy of continued technical innovation synonymous with the Miyake brand, including the 3D Steam Stretch, a cutting edge technology that allows the fabric to withstand prolonged wear and washing.
What direction will Satoshi Kondo take the cult status fashion label?
