Aries Arise is known for its cool factor, but, like most brands, they’re nothing without the photographers who capture them. Through the lens of prominent photographers with unique perspectives, this month the Aries Arise Archive book launches in collaboration with independent New York publishing house Rizzoli.
Aries is translated, transformed, and transferred to its audience in Aries Arise Archive. A history chock full of fresh and resonant cultural campaigns capture the continually changing customs of youth. Aries Arise, more commonly known as Aries, have collectively enthralled the streets in the brand’s home in London, and beyond, unfolding through the eyes of creatives who make magic with a camera. The paragon brand with a global following has its clothing and cultural tastemaking captured and elevated with the click of a shutter and the blink of an eye, working with the likes of Alasdair McClellan, David Sims, and Lea Colombo.
Designed by former i-D Creative Director, Jonny Lu, with a foreword written by fashion journalist Angelo Flaccavento, the 300-page book serves readers a comprehensive archive of Aries’ distinct and veritable graphics, designed by co-founder Fergus Purcell. It looks through their cult classic garments, photographs of their community, and most importantly acts as a retrospective on their multitude of projects and collaborations.
Beautifully bound within the Munken pages is a wide selection of photography from aforementioned projects and collaborations, tracing the rise of Aries into an instantly recognisable phenomenon. Such as photos from the celebrated Alasdair McClellan who shot Aries for the 2019 cover of i-D Editions, where McClellan's nostalgic portraiture pairs like butter on toast with Aries’ naturally rough streetwear edges.
The man dressed as a ram featured on the cover is a part of the vivid and amusing David Sims series ‘Click to Buy’. Photos vary from a bald man with a wig of Aries stickers to black and white portraits and colorful scenes of collaged body parts and chicken shop signs. Mia Khalifa's calendar by Juergen Teller features twelve distinct looks from Teller's tell-tale straight forward perspective. July has Marijuana leaves presented as Khalifa's nipples while November has her knickers down and a seemingly cozy pair of knit phallus slippers.
The archive holds work from the past decade including photographs by Angelo Pennetta who shot the infamous Tommy Jeans collaboration, as well as the poignant and colorful Lea Colombo whose illustrative style of photography paired devilishly well with Aries loud and sensible styles.
Aries Arise Archive is for the fresh and fun, for the Lime Bike pros, and for those who say ‘No Problemo’ unironically. Aries Arise Archive is on sale the 15th April and is available for purchasehere.
