We are thrilled to announce Nick Knight has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to fashion and photography.
Congratulations are due to SHOWstudio founder and director Nick Knight. Previously appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2010, Knight has now been accorded Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his boundary-pushing contributions to fashion image-making.
The announcement came as part of King Charles III's Birthday Honours list in June 2023. Knight will officially receive his appointment in a royal ceremony on Wednesday 31 January, 2024.
Knight's debut photography monograph Skinheads, was published in 1982, whilst Knight was still a student at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design. Knight was then commissioned by i-D editor Terry Jones to create a series of 100 portraits for the magazine's fifth-anniversary issue. Ever since, Knight's work has consistently challenged conventional notions of beauty, addressing controversial issues in the world of fashion and beyond, including racism, disability, ageism and fat-ism.
A long-standing commitment to experimenting with the latest technologies meant Knight was also one of the first and most high-profile image-makers to adopt digital film as a medium for showing fashion, which led to the founding of SHOWstudio in 2000.
Congratulations to our incredible founder and director from SHOWstudio!
