New Book 'Peter Lindbergh. Dior' is a Love Letter to the Fashion Greats
Peter Lindbergh. Dior, a two-volume publication examining the work of the photographer's long-time collaboration with Dior is being released this week. The book will explore one of the late photographer's final projects with the luxury house, a shoot that saw 70 years' worth of Dior's archive captured against the bustling backdrop of Times Square, New York.
Volume 1 of the tome sees 165 never-before-published images from the 2018 shoot, as well as an introduction by the book's curator Martin Harrison. The shoot saw Dior allow a record number of rare and priceless garments to be loaned from its Parisian vaults, including a 1947 Bar suit worn by Alek Wek, and hand-sewn pieces by Christian Dior worn by Amber Valletta. As well as these haute couture garments, models such as Saskia de Brauw and Karen Elson wore more recent designs by Maria Grazia Chiuri amongst New York's crowds and scaffolding.
Whilst the first part of Peter Lindbergh. Dior, focuses on the seminal photographer's NYC project, Volume 2 looks back at the history of one of Dior’s closest collaborations. More than 100 images taken by Lindbergh of Dior's creations through the years are shared, including images originally published in magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Garments included in the iconic photographs are from both the men’s and women’s lines under haute couture and ready-to-wear.
The book, designed by Juan Gatti (a long-term collaborator and friend of Lindbergh) aims to imbed the seminal photographer's spirit in every part of the publication.
