Mugler For The Future of Dance and Music
It's no secret as to why Mugler's signature look - one which has long emphasised the power and limitlessness of the human body since the early days of Manfred Thierry Mugler's reign - is rooted in flexibility and mobility. Born in Strasbourg in 1948, it's well known Mugler himself was a prodigious ballet dancer, joining the Alsatian Ballet Du Rhin company at the age of 14 to indulge his love of dance further. And, despite us knowing how the creative route Mugler went down ended up, dance is something still entrenched in the Parisian fashion house - proven not only by Mugler's collaboration with Wayne McGregor in 2019 but also the brand's recently launched initiative Mugler Creators.
Designed to aid students of dance and music with financial support beginning with the 2024 academic year, the project will begin by selecting 16 young students before dutifully providing them with scholarships to support their higher education careers. In addition to this, Mugler will be donating € 175,000 to the schools participating in the education of the selected artists, with plans to expand their initiatives in the coming years. On the UK front, Mugler has partnered with Trinity Laban - an internationally renowned London-based conservatoire - to select the lucky recipients of the grants.
To celebrate Mugler’s union of fashion and dance, British Tunisian director Félicity Ben Rejeb Price along with the students from both arts schools have created a short film, showcasing their talents and unbridled creativity. With Mugler's 50th birthday right around the corner, this is a wonderful extension of the Parisian house, proving that they have no plans in slowing down, at least where supporting the next generation of talent is concerned.
By fostering young talent, Mugler have gone back to their roots to support the future of all creative fields, giving back to a community that Manfred Thierry Mugler himself was once considered a part of.
