Since the millennium, fashion aesthetics have somewhat changed tremendously. Whether it be sporting a pair of bumsters (you know, those really low slung jeans that almost show your bum crack but not quite) or the dad glasses famously worn by Brad Pitt to pretty much every red carpet appearance he made throughout the late 90s. (By dad glasses, we're asking you to think ski wear but make it chic.) These types of sunglasses often have metallic coloured frames and are shaped in such a way that they almost look futuristic (despite being considered retro) yeah we know, the 00s were a very confusing time for fashion.
Never thought they'd have a comeback moment? Well, think again. French fashion designer Marine Serre and eyewear giants Gentle Monster have teamed up to design a collection that is just as futuristic as it is retro. Inspired by the aesthetics of the y2k era, the collection Visionizer includes two new, distinctly shaped sunglasses in a variety of colour combinations. The first style is more of a curvy frame mixing the traditionalist snowboarding eyewear shapes with a more glamorous touch in mind. (Note the iconic Marine Serre crescent moon shape in the corner of the acetate frame.) The second style is more of a 'cyclist meets high fashion' look. The frame is a thin metallic silver, and although they probably won't be much helpful at blocking out the sun due to their lightly coloured aerodynamic lens, we can guarantee they're the sort that fashion students will lust over, come summer. (If they're not doing so already.)
Choosing to collaborate with brands whose values Marine Serre finds similar to her own, Gentle Monster will be the designer's third collaboration amidst previously working with Jimmy Choo and most recently, A$AP Rocky's AWGE.
The two styles retail for €200 and €270 respectively, and are now available for purchase on marineserre.com, gentlemonster.com and selected retailers.
