As far as collaborations go, Gentle Monster is the front runner when it comes to the unexpected. Collaborating with the ultimate fashion maestro of craftsmanship John Galliano, artistic director of Maison Margiela, the South Korean accessories brand takes the maison's most iconic of symbols - the stitched four point logo - and weaves it across their most iconic eyewear models.
Structured in acetate, the designs take on classic Margiela form with hand-stitched matelassé quilt details, wrapped up in a redesigned Gentle Monster interpretation of the Glam Slam clutch. Conceived to be genderless, the collection featuring sunglasses and spectacles aims to incorporate the Maison Margiela concepts developed in their Parisian atelier alongside the future-oriented South Korean process of development at Gentle Monster.
Constructing a 'Créautre' of its own, multidisciplinary artist Katherina Jebb utilises her high-resolution scanning techniques to create a campaign that ushers in a digitally generated dynamic incorporating a series of multiple images living together.
Bridging the two innovators together with a series of worldwide pop-ups in seven cities, the collection will be released on 28 February, and sold at Maison Margiela and Gentle Monster stores, where visitors will get to experience the atelier-like flare of both brands and dive into the world of Maison Margiela’s craftsmanship.
