Louis Gabriel Nouchi’s New Brief Isn’t What You Expect
At the heart of Louis Gabriel Nouchi’s world is a celebration of masculinity. While the strong bravado of his sharp, shoulder-padded tailoring forms the Adonis-like backbone of his aesthetic, that doesn’t mean he subscribes to the rigid rules of hyper-masculine tradition. No stranger to blurring gendered lines, the 2023 ANDAM Prize-winning Parisian designer’s community-driven exploration of masculinity includes world-renowned drag queens like Raja and La Grande Dame gracing his runways. It makes sense, then, that his next move would be to introduce his take on an it-bag for today's non-conformists.
In May, it was announced that LGN Louis Gabriel Nouchi was among the newest members of ECCO.kollektive. Launched in 2022, the initiative has invited the industry’s most exciting talents to utilise ECCO’s renowned tanneries in crafting innovative leather shoes, accessories, and ready-to-wear. Nouchi, joined by Craig Green and Ottolinger, follows Peter Do, Laura and Deanna Fanning of Kiko Kostadinov, and Nina Chisten as the latest to join the kollektive.
The Brief bag made its runway debut at the brand’s S/S 25 show as part of Paris Fashion Week earlier this year. Defined by a bold palette of black and blood red—featuring a collaborative abstract print from visual artist Sasha Ferré—it was the leather pieces in the collection that stole the show. Blazers evoked rugged confidence, while dresses crafted from vertical leather strips elegantly sculpted the body. The collection encapsulated Nouchi’s vision of the contemporary wardrobe; bold, sophisticated and daringly alluring. And the Brief bag ties it all together.
