Oliver Meyrou’s documentary on Yves Saint Laurent is finally screened 20 years since its inception.

Back in 1998, a young filmmaker named Olivier Meyrou began to document the life and work of designer Yves Saint Laurent as he prepared for what would be his final collection before the fashion brand sold to Gucci the following year. Commissioned by YSL’s business and life partner Pierre Bergé, the highly anticipated documentary Yves Saint-Laurent: The Last Collections was shelved for more than a decade as Bergé believed it revealed too much on the pair. With Meyrou filming as a fly-on-the-wall over a three year span, the filmmaker captures the last of the great haute couture houses, creating what he thought at the time to be a portrayal of a contemporary fashion designer, only for its 20-years-later release date to make this feature a significant documentation of fashion history.

Yves Saint-Laurent: The Last Collections will be screened on 30 October 2019.
