When it comes to dressing for the weather balancing practicality and style is a recurring feat. All too often, sleek silhouettes take a backseat in favour of utilitarian flair. Well, Chinese Canadian designer Izzy Du is throwing out all the rules for outerwear with her innovative, future-facing designs rooted in the sculptural and experimental. Still, that doesn’t mean she isn’t designing with everyone in mind.

‘I love dressing the body and emphasising different parts of it,’ Du tells me at her London pop-up in Soho. Running in tandem with Fashion Week Du has unveiled her ‘Origins’ collection and campaign, building off her distinct space-age aesthetic. ‘Since launching the brand I’ve been moving around so much that it's about time that I did something in London. I wanted everyone to experience the clothes at their pace’.

Du’s otherworldly take on outerwear is defined by her exploration of dimension and proportion. Exaggerated, circular shapes morph the body, creating a silhouette that’s equal parts domineering, comforting, and humorous. While her playful cocoons may seem daunting for the average consumer, crafting her signature style in full-length and cropped iterations signals the designer’s desire for everyone to engage.

‘Fashion can be so serious sometimes, and I don’t think it always needs to be like that,’ she explains. ‘It’s really about versatility and having fun with what you’re wearing’. As Izzy Du continues to reimagine the possibilities of fashion, the brand invites fashion enthusiasts to join them on a journey through uncharted territories, where creativity knows no bounds and every garment injects a sense of joy and freedom into personal style.
