While designers and models tend to get the brightest spotlight as fashion tastemakers, the industry is so much more than that. After all, what would fashion be without casting directors, photographers, hair stylists, make-up artists and more? Pretty bleak if you ask us. The British Fashion Council agrees, which is why, year after year, they present their NEW WAVE: Creatives list comprised of 50 global emerging talents poised to shape fashion's future.
’NEW WAVE: Creatives is an invaluable platform for recognising and celebrating the diverse talents shaping the future of fashion, the community beyond the designers and creative directors,’ explains chief executive of the BFC Caroline Rush. ‘These emerging artists, often working behind the scenes, are redefining creativity across multiple disciplines and transforming the way fashion is experienced globally’.
The Fashion Awards (TFA), held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, serve not only as a glitzy event but also as the primary fundraiser for the BFC Foundation. This year’s theme champions the intersection of fashion, culture, and entertainment, ensuring that each narrative shared reflects purpose, excellence, and boundless creativity. This initiative is vital in promoting the role of fashion in our culture while also elevating the voices of the newest and most talented creatives in the industry.
The 50 creatives who will be celebrated at this year's Fashion Awards were hand-selected from an esteemed panel of industry professionals. Notable names include SHOWstudio director Nick Knight, creative director of Off White and editor-in-chief of Dazed Ib Kamara, and photographed Tyler Mitchell. Strengthening London’s identity as an international hub of creativity, the 2024 NEW WAVE: Creatives will receive support from the BFC’s social media channels for the year.
