As Israel continues its destruction of Palestine, it's easy to feel hopeless about what you can do to help the situation on the ground in Gaza and beyond, supporting the children, mothers, fathers and aid workers who need it most. However, it's crucial to remember that your actions and donations matter, an important truth Berlin-based author and founder of Gaze Contemporary Joshua Amissah is currently championing with his time-limited charity print sale Prints For Palestine.
Bringing together an international array of 66 artists including Ashland Mines (Bobby Beethoven), Christopher Joshua Benton, David Mesa, James Bantone, Javier de la Blanca and more, Prints For Palestine makes its mark as a collective effort, existing to take a stance against censorship and oppression via the selling of affordable prints.
All proceeds from the initiative will be donated to The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), which is part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, comprising 191 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies working to save lives by building community resilience, strengthening localisation and to promote dignity around the world.
Speaking of why he wanted to orchestrate such a project, Amissah told SHOWstudio:
'In this poignant era, the unsettling trend of artists facing deplatforming and silencing casts a shadow of concern. Amidst the pervasive censorship surrounding expressions of solidarity with Palestine and beyond, it became imperative for me to unite with an international array of mostly marginalized artists and take a resolute stand against repression, stigmatisation, and discrimination in all its forms. Art, with its ability to delve into the depths of human vulnerability, emerges as a potent instrument of non-violence against oppression and injustice.'
The fine-art prints that make up this charity sale will be crafted on premium Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm paper with the dimensions 211 x 297 mm, and will come adorned with a subtle white frame. Each print will only be made available for pre-order for a limited time until the end of March 2024 on gazecontemporary.com.
Prices are kept at the lowest to make art (and subsequent supporting donations) as accessible as possible for everyone. To read more about the project and see which artists are involved, click here.
