The charity Hospital Rooms is staging an online auction next week, featuring artists and creatives including Harold Offeh, Sophie Clements, Yukako Shibata, Anish Kapoor, Tim A Shaw and Giles Deacon who have all donated works to the sale.
Hospital Rooms was founded in 2016 by artist Tim A Shaw and curator Niamh White to improve the surroundings of mental health patients, transforming the often bleak environments in hospitals through commissioned art installations and design workshops. SHOWstudio documented their first project in 2016, which saw artists including Nick Knight, Clements and Michael O'Reilly allocated spaces within the wards of the The Phoenix Unit at Springfield University Hospital. Each artist created an installation which was accompanied by workshops for the patients, promoting the transformative power of creative practice. Since then, Hospital Rooms have worked on multiple projects across the U.K, rejuvenating mental health facilities. All proceeds from the auction will support the charity's future projects.
Taking place in partnership with the famed auction house Hauser & Wirth, artworks will be available to view in person at the South Gallery, Hauser & Wirth, London on Thursday 24 September 2020. That evening, the live auction will be streamed on Zoom from 18:30. Follow this link for more information, to book viewing appointments and to place advance bids from Wednesday 16 September.
