Inspired by Federico Fellini, Alessandro Michele unveils his first campaign as creative director for Valentino dubbed 'Avant Les Debuts'.

Paying homage to famed filmmaker Federico Felini’s Roma, Alessandro Michele’s first campaign at Valentino riffed on the magic of mystery. Directed and shot by Glen Luchford, 'Avant Les Debuts', the luxury brand’s spring 2025 cruise collection, focuses on the home of the founder Valentino Garavani setting the stage in Roma.

Bringing his eclectic style to the Italian label, Michele’s debut transformed the historical headquarters of Maison Valentino into an eccentric home, filled with characters and homages to the Fellini's cinema stars as the brand enters a new era. The campaign's Valentino family wears the collection with ease. Embodying Michele’s signature eclecticism, the designer explains the campaign is rooted in 'mixing low with high' and his artistocratic 'lowlifes' live in their eccentric wardrobe. Animals, classical sculptures, and attitude reminiscent of the Italian cinema from the 60s complete the scene.

The photographs, and a short campaign film recreates a Felini-esque scene, using original sound and voice-over from the 1972 film Roma, to create a new story of Rome, of the luxury brand Valentino, using history to root this new era in reality. As the name suggests, meaning ‘Before the Beginnings’, this campaign firmly cements Michele’s reign at the Maison, setting the scene for more to come in his new home.
