Here’s How To Get Your Hands On A JW Anderson Rembrandt
Kim Kardashian might be the selfie queen of the digital age, but the practice dates back hundreds of years. For design titan Jonathan Anderson, it’s a self-portrait by the Dutch master Rembrandt that he dubs ‘the original selfie’. Throughout his life Rembrandt painted nearly 100 self-portraits, but it's one cross-hatched pen-and-ink portrait from 1630 that inspired JW Anderson's surreal S/S 23 menswear collection presented as part of Milan Fashion Week in June. The collection's standout print is now at the core of the brand's latest artist-inspired capsule collection.
Once reserved for Amsterdam's Rembrandt House Museum, now anyone can take home their very own work by the painter thanks to JW Anderson. The brand's latest capsule collection is bringing 17th-century portraiture to modern-day wardrobes by stamping the artist's astonished visage on everyday essentials, including tracksuit bottoms, crewneck vests, jumpers and accessories. No stranger to artist collaborations, Anderson has previously teamed up with Pol Anglada, Gilbert & George and the Tom of Finland foundation.
The JW Anderson Rembrandt capsule collection is available online and at the JW Anderson Soho shop.
