Here’s How Dover Street Market Is Celebrating Photo London
Certified London institution Dover Street Market is celebrating the annual celebration of photography in London (AKA Photo London) in the only way it knows how. With a series of collaborative drops and special installations that will make you yearn for nothing more than to spend your hard-earned savings. As the metropole buzzes with the excitement of shutterbugs here for the photog-fair, we’ve rounded up our favourite drops from London’s favourite creative hub.
Comme des Garçons x Roman Signer
You can’t come to Dover Street Market without gawking at installation du jour on the ground floor. For Photo London, the space will be taken over by Swiss artist Roman Signer. Best known for his dynamic sculptures that veer into performance, it’s how he captures action through film that DSM is highlighting. Along with copies of the photo book, Roman Signer: Reisefotos/Travel Photos 1991-2022, there will be exclusive T-shirts printed with some of the artist's most iconic images.
Martin Parr
Because now is as good a time as ever to tickle your fancy for camp Britishness, photographer, documentarian, and cultural anthropologist Martin Parr has released an all-new photo book. Fashion Faux Parr from Phaidon is the first collection of Parr’s fashion photography. With over 250 vivid images (including rarities previously unseen) from Parr’s most fashionable ventures for Vogue, Balenciaga and more, and behind-the-scenes photos, expect to see the fashion industry from an all-new (albeit honest) perspective.
adidas
If prime minister Rishi Sunak killed the adidas Samba wave, then Dover Street Market has brought it back to life. The classic silhouette gets DSMified with a sleek black rendition complete with white stripes. What sets this pair apart from the rest is the iconic hut logo emblazoned on the tongue. First teased at the Felix Art Fair in Los Angeles, they’re finally dropping as part of Photo London. Don’t be surprised if they ultimately become the it-shoe for every upcoming art event.
sacai
Chitose Abe might have mastered the art of collaboration with sacai’s ongoing offerings with Carhartt WIP, but that doesn’t mean she’s limiting herself to workwear. Case in point: sacai is partnering up with London-based jewellery brand BUNNEY and industrial designer Eugene Whang on a capsule collection of artisanal objects. The collection, inspired by Tulip Mania that took over 17th-century Amsterdam, includes a vase gilded with gold, opulent accessories like a gem-encrusted brooch, and sacai’s take on a florist's workwear uniform.
Paolina Russo and Aidan Zamiri
Image-maker Aidan Zamiri might be riding high from directing Charli XCX’s ’360’ music video, but that doesn’t mean he’s too busy to collaborate with one of London’s most exciting young talents. Teaming up with Paolina Russo the duo presents ‘Monolithics’, a series of psychedelic portraits to accompany Russo’s latest collection. Equally captivating and enigmatic, Zamiri's imagery brings Russo's avant-garde designs to life in a mesmerising fusion of fashion and art.
