Haider Ackermann Leads Canada Goose Into The Future
From guest designer of Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture to a collaboration with the Italian sportswear brand Fila, recent years have seen Haider Ackermann flex his fashion muscles. The Colombian-born French designer, who earned his fashion stripes studying in Antwerp before training under John Galliano and Wim Neels, launched his namesake brand in 2002. Although known for sharp tailoring and sensuous drapery, Ackermann has a knack for taking sportswear into the realms of high fashion. Bearing that in mind, the cult designer's new appointment as Canada Goose's first ever creative director makes all the more sense as the outerwear brand look to the future of people and planet.
The plan? Lead the 1957-founded brand into a new, elevated chapter. 'When it comes to the marriage of craftsmanship and beauty, there’s no one more fitting than Haider Ackermann. He intuitively understands Canada Goose as a brand apart from all others, and that authenticity, craftsmanship and performance are the cornerstones of our brand. With his distinct ability to harness the energy and potential of our authentic heritage, I look forward to seeing his impact across our designs', says Canada Goose Chairman & CEO, Dani Reiss.
A preliminary release before a Fall/Winter capsule collection, a limited-edition sweatshirt in support of Polar Bears International (PBI) is modelled by none other than Hollywood icon Jane Fonda in a campaign captured by Willy Vanderperre, and focuses on Canada Goose as a platform for collective action to protect the planet. Following a trip to Manitoba, Canada, Ackermann found new purpose.
'What drew me to Canada Goose is not only how they have created a category, but also its authentic reputation and drive to stay committed to its purpose', the designer told press. 'The impact this brand has had on the world around us is meaningful and inspirational. I consider myself a student of the environment and my trip to Churchill lit a fire to do more and be more. My hope is that by coming together with the extraordinary climate champion Jane Fonda, we can help drive people to act – and to do it now.'
The limited-edition 'PBI Hoodie' will give 100% of proceeds to PBI's research and conservation.
