Haider Ackermann is undeniably your favourite designer’s favourite designer. Sensual fluidity, sharp tailoring, poetic craftsmanship, and his androgynous line have earned him the highest accolades and solidified his status as one of the industry’s most respected and influential talents. In 2023, Jean Paul Gaultier invited him to guest-design his S/S haute couture collection, a milestone that proved his prowess at the height of design.Tom Ford gave his full approval of Ackermann’s appointment as the new creative director of his namesake brand, recognising his exceptional ability to redefine luxury with a modern, visionary approach. These endorsements from industry titans only reaffirm Ackermann’s esteemed position at the forefront of fashion.
Of course, Ackermann’s sartorial domination extends far beyond the confines of Paris Fashion Week. In May, to the delight of fashion insiders and enthusiasts alike, Canada Goose announced Ackermann as its first-ever creative director, marking the beginning of an exciting new era for the renowned outerwear brand. With his debut capsule collection inspired by the power of nature and Canada Goose’s archive, Ackermann ushers in a bold vision that merges luxury, innovation, and performance wear.
‘Being surrounded by nature allows one to be connected with oneself – it reflects, it inspires, it provokes,’ Ackermann explains. ‘It is in this rhythm and energy that we designed this capsule.’ The A/W 24 capsule reimagines classic pieces through a contemporary lens, blending the iconic craftsmanship of the brand’s seven-decade archive with fresh silhouettes and bold colours.
At the heart of Ackermann’s Canada Goose collection is an homage to the brand’s past. In 1972, the brand went by Snow Goose before being reinvented as Canada Goose in 2000. It’s this chapter that Ackermann is reviving with an archival logo and reimagined pieces like the Rider Parka. An evolution of the 90s tactical Peacekeeper Parka, it features oversized proportions, reflective elements, utilitarian pockets, and the newly revived archival logo. The capsule also features the Celestia Jacket, a modern twist on the classic shirt jacket, crafted from reflective nylon, nodding to the brand’s heritage in high-visibility workwear.
The campaign for this collection sees Ethan Hawke and a slew of models in portraits by image-maker Willy Vanderperre that highlight the human essence inherent in clothing. ‘I find that it is important to get out of the city and go for a walk in the woods. Nature has given me a sense of purpose, something that felt like a natural connection to Canada Goose’s values and this collection,’ shares Hawke.
Launched under the revived Snow Goose by Canada Goose label, Ackermann’s seasonal collections promise to bring a new vision to the heritage brand, combining a love for the outdoors with a sophisticated, fashion-forward sensibility. With this debut, Ackermann not only redefines outerwear but also solidifies his place as one of the most exciting and influential designers of his generation.
