Gucci and Harley Weir Gear Up For Fun In The Sun
When Gucci announced that Sabato De Sarno would be replacing Alessandro Michele as creative director earlier this year, questions quickly arose on what the brand's new era could look like. While the 39-year-old has been a prominent member of design teams for Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino, there's been no indication about whether De Sarno would continue in Michele’s maximalist footsteps or introduce an entirely new aesthetic for the Italian brand.
In the meantime, Gucci’s design team has been hard at work celebrating all things heritage. For the A/W 23 womenswear collection, this meant not shying away from house signatures like the Marmont belt and new iterations of the Horsebit 1955 bag. The brand is continuing to put heritage at the forefront with its summer campaign shot by Harley Weir.
Looking to incite wanderlust the Gucci Summer Stories campaign showcases the brand's timeless accessories revamped for warmer days ahead. Signature styles like the Jackie 1961 and Horsebit 1955 are summerfied in woven raffia while the Jumbo GG duffle and tote bags are reimagined in vibrant hues perfect for poolside days. As if that wasn't enough to get anyone stoked for a holiday in the sun, front and centre of the seasonal campaign is a selection of monogram stamped luggage from the Gucci Valigeria collection.
Soundtracked by The Strokes' I'll Try Anything Once, the campaign film also shot by Weir harkens to Sofia Coppola's 2010 film Somewhere, capturing all the carefree magic of summer. While not shot at the Chateau Marmont, the summer scenes of model's lounging poolside and galavanting along the shore are sure to get anyone in the mood to book their next holiday. For those unsure of where to spend their summer Gucci will be hosting beach-side inspired pop-ups at resort locations around the world where anyone can get their hands on the summer capsule collection.
